Mardi Gras Havana is a state of mind as well as a festival of increasing importance in Cuba. There are many historical ties between France, New Orleans (Spain ruled Louisiana from 1763 until 1800), Havana and Cuba. "Mardi Gras", in French, literally means, "Fat Tuesday". Mardi Gras precedes the forty (40) day fast of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent marking the Easter season.

From January 6th or Twelfth Night (Three Kings' Night) until the beginning of Lent (Ash Wednesday), Mardi Gras is celebrated around the World.
